Update, May 21, 2019:
As of April 2019, I am managing editor of JournalStone Publishing and its imprint, Trepidatio. I now have serious time constraints on freelance editing, so please contact me (see below) about my availability. Thanks!
Things I’ve worked on:
I’m in the process of updating this list–2018 was a really busy year! But the following books are all ones I’ve copy edited, proofread, eyeballed or otherwise had a hand in:
Explorations: First Contact (ed. Nathan Hystad & Scarlett R. Algee)
Explorations: War (ed. Nathan Hystad & Scarlett R. Algee)
The K’Tai War, Book 1: Invasion (by PP Corcoran)
Explorations: Colony (ed. Nathan Hystad & Scarlett R. Algee)
The Cronian Incident (by Matthew Williams)
The Scalpel: Feral Space, Book 1 (by James Worrad)
At the Mercy of Beasts (by Ed Kurtz)
Red Creek (by Nathan Hystad)
Lucky Empire: Lucky’s Marines, Book 3 (by Joshua James)
Fees are flat, based on the manuscript’s word count and complexity. Fiction editing includes proofreading (spelling, punctuation, and grammar correction), copy editing (wording and plot continuity correction), fact checking, formatting, and commentary on plot, plausibility, and characterization.
My current fee chart is as follows:
•Novella, 10,000-50,000 words: $150
•Novel, 50,000-100,000 words: $300
•Novel, 100,000-200,000 words: $500
•Novel synopsis only, no sample chapters: $25
•Novel synopsis with sample chapters: $75
Fees are in USD. I accept payments through PayPal, Google Wallet, and Skrill. For works shorter than 10,000 words or longer than 200,000 words, please contact me to discuss payment details.
I can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please use “Editing” as your subject line.
I am open to all genres except religious fiction, romance, and erotica.
Are you a student? I do academic editing too, as well as simply writing endnotes and bibliographies to save you time. Just contact me via the email address listed above.
About the Editor:
Scarlett R. Algee’s fiction has appeared in several places, including Sanitarium Magazine, Body Parts Magazine, The Wicked Library, and the recent anthologies Explorations: Warand Explorations: Colony. Her story “Dark Music,” an episode of The Lift, was a 2016 Parsec Awards finalist. She obtained a BA in English from Lambuth University in 2000, has done graduate work in English grammar, and lives in the wilds of Tennessee with a Hound of Tindalos cleverly disguised as a beagle.
